Henry VIII and Tudor Times

The Tudor Rose

Picture
The Tudor Rose is a traditional symbol associated with the Tudor dynasty. It is composed of a red rose and a white rose together.  The red rose symbolizes the House of Lancaster and the white rose symbolizes the House of York. Both of these houses were branches of the royal Plantagenet dynasty.  Henry VIII's father, Henry VII, united the two dynasties.  He himself was from the House of Lancaster, while his wife, Elizabeth of York, was from the House of York.  Thus Henry VII created a new dynasty, the House of Tudor, from two royal dynasties.  He ended the Wars of the Roses by doing so.
